Weekly vs biweekly lawn mowing schedule guide.

Many homeowners ask for an every-other-week mowing quote to cut visits in half, only to find that crews either decline biweekly schedules during peak growth or charge more per visit. Understanding the one-third blade rule and how seasonal plans work makes it easier to compare quotes side by side.

Three scheduling rules on a lawn mowing quote

  1. 1. The one-third blade rule

Turfgrass stays thick when a mower removes no more than one-third of the leaf blade in a single pass. In peak growing months, irrigated Bermuda, St. Augustine, fescue, or bluegrass grows fast enough that waiting 14 days forces the mower to chop off half the plant, leaving brown stems and heavy clumps.

  2. 2. Warm-season vs cool-season peaks

Warm-season grasses (Bermuda, St. Augustine, zoysia, centipede) grow fastest from May through September and slow down in spring and autumn. Cool-season grasses (fescue, bluegrass, ryegrass) surge in April through June and again in September and October, while slowing during mid-summer heat.

  3. 3. The seasonal hybrid plan

Most residential mowing quotes use a seasonal schedule: weekly visits during peak growing months, every-other-week visits during the spring and autumn shoulder months, and off-season pause when the turf is dormant.

What to check on a recurring mowing quote

Per-cut vs flat monthly billing
Check whether the quote bills after each visit (so five-Monday months cost more than four-Monday months) or averages an agreed number of annual cuts into equal monthly payments.
Biweekly overgrowth surcharge
If you pick every-other-week service during summer rains, ask whether the contractor adds a double-cut fee when grass exceeds 6 inches.
Rain delays and service days
Mowing soaked turf leaves mower ruts and wet thatch balls. Quotes should explain whether rain pushes your cut to the next dry day or skips to the following week.
